David Hansen

Born in Sydney in 1981, David Hansen holds a Bachelor of Music (Performance) from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music where he studied with Andrew Dalton. He also works with David Harper and James Bowman. David now lives in Chicago. His concert work in Australia and New Zealand includes among others Britten's Rejoice the Lamb, Dvorak's Mass in D, Jubilate Domino (Buxtehude), Messiah (Handel), Mass in C (Mozart), Stabat Mater (Pergolesi), Dido & Aeneas and Come Ye Sons of Art (Purcell), Stabat Mater (Vivaldi), Lamentatione II (Zelenka) and Carmina Burana (Orff). He made his European debut in 2004 in Aix-en-Provence where he performed the role of Spirit in Purcell's Dido & Aeneas. He has since made his UK debut performing a series of concerts with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Emmanuelle Haim. With Alan Curtis he sang the title role of Handel’s Fernando at the Spoleto Festival in Italy as well as Bertarido in Rodelinda in Bilbao. He made his debut with Sante Fe Opera as Trincolo in Ades’ “The Tempest”. He has made his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and Sir Simon Rattle in Carmina Burana and has sung the title-role of Solomon with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Rene Jacobs on tour in Paris, London and New York. His current and future engagements include the Marienvesper and L’Orfeo with Rene Jacobs at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, Nero in Poppea for Victorian Opera and Tolomeo in Guilio Cesare with Den Norske Opera in Oslo. His first recording of Purcell Odes with Stephen Cleobury has been released on EMI Classics. |
